Welcome to the very first issue of “The Point”. It’s our own little digital newsletter (a quarterly for now, hopefully more often in the future) featuring a little bit of everything and not too much of any one thing.
We designed The Point to be quick to skim so you can catch up when you’re short on time but with a lot of clickability when you have time for that deep dive.

We’re excited to announce that Ben Bauer has been chosen to lead Exclamation as Executive Director. Click right here to learn more.
refocus (verb)
: to focus again
: to change the emphasis or direction of

It’s interesting, isn’t it, that the word “refocus” has definitions that are really polar opposites? One speaks to the work it takes to nail your focus for a second time, and the other to changing direction entirely.
That’s probably why it seems so fitting to define 2023 for the Exclamation team.
As we looked ahead for the year, we took the opportunity to talk about what we’re good at, what we love to do, and how we can do more of those things for the benefit of everyone around us.
We also explored what might not be serving us or the people that rely on us and how we could refocus on different ideas, unique thoughts, and, in some ways, set a new course that we hadn’t predicted 5 years ago when we were just a baby CUSO.
Neither of those conversations were easy to have, but both will lead us to closer to being exactly who we want to be when we grow up.
That’s why we’re happy to declare “Refocus” to be Exclamation’s Word of 2023. (And why, even though our plans were to announce this MUCH MUCH earlier, we’re here halfway through the year and trying something new.)
It turns out, you can refocus whenever the time is right.
Hey, we get it. Almost everybody will rock a game of Plinko when they get the chance. But do you ever wish there was something a little more exciting you could bring to the (expo) table? WE DID TOO! That's why we had such a great time designing "The Simple Life" game for our friends at Simplicity CU. The gameboard was custom designed by the Exclamation Team in Simplicity brand colors with retro-look and DEI friendly illustrations with giant game pieces and dice to complete the fun festival feel.
